How many FIRST DUE structure fires have you experienced?
Using national statistics – 10 1st due fires in a 20 year career.
Scott Ziegler made this observation: “We had three first due fires the last day I worked, which is normal for the average Detroit firefighter.”
National statistics flatten out individual experiences. A Maryland statewide analysis of paramedic intubations showed that caregivers averaged about one opportunity a year. Some paramedics in Baltimore, Prince George’s County and Montgomery County average an intubation a month.
How many structures fires do you need to experience to be proficient?
If your on-the-job experience does not provide that exposure, how else can you become proficient?
